Baby steps are small and tottering, but they lead to good, strong legs, eventually. I love all news that relates to my dream of merely plugging my auto into a socket instead of pulling in to a filthy, noisy gas station, whether it be in San Jose, Hawyward or wherever. Today, Dec 20, 2011, a post appeared on the Wall Street Journal’s “Market Watch,” (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX), under the headline, “(automobile) Charging Group Partners With FRIT......” My friend who runs a Hayward and San Jose Auto Service repair center was telling me about this.

The new partnership will entail the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on Federal Realty's 18.6 million square feet of retail locations in tactically chosen urban areas in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and California (hopefullt Hayward and San Jose, etc.), according to the press release and the aforementioned friend who runs the San Jose and Hayward auto repair service..
The release states that the Car Charging Group will set up Level II, 240-volt, EV charging stations, built by Coulomb Technologies. For their part, auto Drivers will be able to utilize the ChargePoint(R) Network, the largest worldwide Internet network linking EV drivers to unmanned charging stations. The Car Charging Group plans to supply its patrons with flexible payment options, and the ability to make reservations.
ChargePoint Network's cloud-based software service plans for running EV charging operations will, of course, follow customer usage patterns, energy use, costs and revenues. The teen charged in a driving under the influence accident that killed one teenager and injured two other is identified as Oneeofrio Lorusso age 18. LEt this story be a lesson for all of those who think they can just throw some casual threats out there....Representatives of the FBI arrested a Denver, Colorado lady who has been identified as Terrice Gay Hutchinson after calling in a bomb threat to Southwest Airlines.
According to publisged reports the agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested her following a phone call she made to SW Airlines and reported that her husband who was a passenger on a flight from Denver to Las Vegas was carrying the bomb.
She made an appearance in court where she was read the charges against her and is due in court for a scheduled appearance later in the month. More news at Merlins Law News Blog with a proven record of their ability to represent their client.
She was later indicted by a Federal Grand Jury charging that on April 17, 2008 she placed a telephone call to Southwest Airlines stating that her husband had a bomb. If she is convicted on these counts she could be sentenced to five years in jail as well as being fined up to $250,000 for giving false information and threats concerning aviation transportation.
According to reports U.S. Attorney Troy Eid has stated that threats that involve airlines would be prosecuted.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy Sibert will be the prosecutor in the case against Hutchinson.
According to reports a statement from Special Agent In Charge James Davis of the FBI said that threats of any kind are taken serious and Mrs. Hutchinson has seen this first hand.

Since then he has been released on bail pending his court date for dui. There is no word as of yet on how the 'Texans' NFL management will view this incident, and what actions will be undertaken, yet while a suspension is perhaps not particularly likely, a team fine seems possible given their history in similiar cases. Various hydrogen suppliers along with vehicle manufacturers met with the Air Resources Board on Thursday January 10th.

This meeting was to come to an agreement to open a group of fueling stations for auto owners of non-polluting fuel cell powered autos to refuel on the highway.

One fueling station that was recently closed will reopen as an agreement with energy companies that were present at the meeting who agreed to supply the needed money and staff to reopen this station.

One of the items that is sure to make its appearance at the Mac show that begins today is a product that Griffin has manufactured, this is called the PowerDock, and for iPod owners that have more than one iPod in the house and iPhones this will make life easy.

This new Griffin product is a docking station to charge four iPods or iPods and iPhones at one time. There will also be a two slot docking station that will be released also at a later time this Spring or early Summer. Both of these new products are likely to make their appearance at the Mac Show.

Griffin has said that the plan to have the four units docking station on the market for consumers in April and will cost $70. Griffins other docking station that is able to charge two iPods in June and will cost $50 on the market for consumers.

At this time the only function of this product is to charge four units at one time, which is exciting to families who would like a central docking station. However, this is a product that in time is assumed will have features added to it making it more desirable.

Today the Mac show begins and the speculation on many of the national news shows have their experts appearing and giving their opinions what is in store for this show, what new items will be shown and all seem to agree that the talk that has been going on may come to light.

Visitors from the United States in general and California in particular are becoming increasingly reluctant to visit Mexico's Baja California peninsula, especially without a secure hotel room. The Reuters online news network has reported that weddings have been canceled. Lobster houses are nearly empty on the normally well traveled New Year's weekend.
While the Mexican Government has reportedly been handing out maps of trails for immigrants to enter the U.S. illegally, it is somewhat ironic that many Americans are deliberately avoiding mexico.
Americans have long tolerated shakedowns by law enforcement authorities south of the border who all too routinely supplement their income by pulling over drivers for supposed traffic violations, and visitors have long realized that some sections of Baja California are a hotbed of narcotic-driven violence. Yet a number of assaults in the last few months by masked and armed bandits,
a few of which have been using flashing lights in order to look like the police, seems to symbolize a whole new low which has scared even veteran visitors.

Lori Hoffman, for example, who happens to be a San Diego nurse, stated that she was sexually assaulted on October 23 by 2 masked men right in front of her boyfriend, San Diego Surfing Academy owner Pat Weber, who was forced to kneel at gunpoint for some forty five long minutes while they raped her. They were at a campground with at least thirty tents, about two hundred miles or so south of the California border.

The masked Mexican men shot out windows of their trailer and forced their way inside, ransacked the cupboards and left with about $7,000 worth of merchandise such as computers, video equipment and even a guitar.

Canine Attacks Police Office on New Years'

Dog Attacks Cop on New Years Day

ANDERSON (Gym Shwortz) January 1, 2008 — About one hour after the year turned to 2008, a man who was swearing abusively and who was holding a champagne bottle was arrested when he allowed his dog to attack a police officer. The officer was hospitalized for an animal bite and the drunken man was charged with public disorderly conduct.

Police are searching for the two dogs with the owner. Only one of the dogs went on the attack, but both left the dog attack scene that took place at approximately 1 a.m. New Year's Day.

The facts relate that officer Jada Burgin was attacked by the dangerous animal when he was at the 200 block of F Street. Officer Burgin, a female cop, went back on duty and manned up shortly after being treated for her wounds.

The attack took place after officer Burgin responded to a report of a yelling contest between Defendants James Powell Jr., 29, and his sister, Jamie Powell. Apparently Mr. Powell started yelling at his dogs and Officer Burgin went towards the noise, she came back into the house and stated she had been bitten by one of the dogs at the premises, according to the official police report.

DUI Car Accident Results In 5 Wrongful Deaths

OHIO, October 31, 2007 - A pickup truck slammed into a minivan killing 5. This is one of the worst DUI car accident to result in wrongful death in a long time. The trucker was DUI and his acts of driving under the influence caused him to collide head on with the minivan. This killed a woman, her four children and caused serious injuries to at least 3 more individuals. The truck versus passenger car head on collisions occurred around 4 miles or so from where the DUI driver drove into the highway traveling from the wrong direction.

The defendant who was driving while under the influence according to police, is named Michael Gagnon. He is just 24 years old. He was apparently so inebriated that he took his truck north on the southbound Interstate 280 late Sunday driving head on into highway traffic. The truck collided head on into the minivan. The accident scene was strewn with children's toys, wrapping paper for presents, stuffed toy animals according the police.

Defendant Gagnon, tested positive to a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of .254 following his apprehension and arrest. This is more than three (3) times the legal blood alcohol content allowed in California and many other states. Those states have a legal BAC of .08. Defendant Gagnon was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.

At least one witness confirms that Defendant Gagnon had been drinking that night and that he took off in his truck. Gagnon was apparently so drunk before the truck accident, employees at a fast food joint called the police on him, but the defendant fled the scene before the cops arrived. Other vehicle driver's called the police as well, but the deadly car crash took place before the police could do anything.

The biography was written by John Baxer. I am not at all certain that it was the authorized version, however it paints a generally complimentary picture of the actor,
in my opinion.
Man what a career! And what a disciplined guy. His work ethic and overall disciplined approach to acting has really inspired me in unrelated areas of my own life, since I myself am not an actor.
Regarding his craft, he would say that "You have to earn the right to Play a Role" or somethin liek that. For a role such as his Oscar Winning performance in 'Raging Bull'
that meant not only working closely with the real life middle weight champion Jake Lamotta but also becoming a boxer himself. He became very good, winning most of his fights. Lamotta claimed he would have been among the top
20 middleweights if he had become a professional. He became so good that he was dangerous, breaking Joe Pesci's ribs
during the filming despite Joe wearing a thick vest. One funny thing happened involving director Martin Scorsese, who could not stand blood. De Nero, when training during real fights,
yelled at Scorsese as he was leaving "where are you going? Stay here! I am doing this for you, you know!"
For the 1976 movie Taxi Driver 9directed also by Scorsese), for which he was nominated for the best-actor oscar, he was so completely absorbed in the role that the crew was worried that he would never come out of the character when the shooting ended.
That role actually changed his face permanently.....he was in character 24/7 which required a certain crooked grin, which left a certain wrinkle and sidewise slant that he still has to this day.
'The King of Comedy' required stand up comedy practice, and so on.....

I would have to say that my personal favorite Robert De Nero films include 'Heat' in which he plays an ace thief. Co-stars include Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Diane Venora and Ton Loc, among several others.
I also liked him as Al Capone in the classic 1987 crime thriller 'The Untouchables' which co-starred Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Marcia Gay-Harden. Directed by Brian De Palma.
I also thought 'Were No Angels' was cool. That particular 1989 film co-starred Sean Pean, Demi Moore and Bruno kirby, among other notable character actors. Him and Penn play escaped convicts on the run, posing as catholic priests. it was pretty funny I must say.
I also admired his work in 'Cape Fear'. he played criminal Max Cady in a tour-de force performance. According to the book his preperation for this role was incredible. he was nominated for best actor for it in 1991.

According to an article posted in the vancouver Sun Newspaper, a ten-year
old boy has allegedly admitted to igniting one of the biggest of the wildfires to strike California, officials have stated.
He apparently told them it was an accident. The fire in question, known as the Buckweed fire, began on October 21, in Agua Dulce, which is a rural area in LA County.
Fanned by the intense winds and very dry weather, it spread fast, forcing some fifteen thousand individuals from their houses and wiping out twenty-one
houses and twenty-two other structures while injuring 3 individuals to boot. All in a day's work for this kid I suppose. In the meantime
investigators from the LA County Sheriff’s Department spoke with the child, and he eventually “acknowledged that he was playing with matches and accidentally, his words, set the fire.”
For the time being the boy is in the custody of his mother and father while waiting to find out whether or not he would be prosecuted.
If the answer is in the affirmative he will apparently be tried in the juvenile justice system and will not be tried as an adult. As of today it was not known

Fatalities from California wildfires reaches 12

According to several major online and offline newspapers, the number of confirmed fatalities from the wildfires which have been destroying so much of the golden State
has reached 12 after the discovery of 4 more burnt bodies. These particular bodies were found just north of the Mexican border.
They were found by border agents just as the firefighters have started to bring the fires under control. So far,
about a million individuals pr so have been forced out of their homes by the calamity. Meanwhile certain evacuees were being allowed back into their houses, and the shelters were starting to clear out.

Sutherland will do jail term for DUI charge

Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest today to a charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level that was over the legal limit and will serve one month in jail under the terms of a plea agreement
His lawyer Blair Berk entered the plea on behalf of the actor, who was not there during the ruling.
In addition to this, he has to enroll in an eighteen month alcohol-education class as well as attend weekly alcohol-therapy sessions for some half of a year.
The charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent came about due to an otherwise routine stop by the police in southern California in September.

At the time he was pulled over, the tv and movie actor was on probation for a drunken driving arrest which occured several years ago. Judge Stuart M. Rice then revoked the his probation in that case.

Britney Spears is Granted linited Visitation Rights

In an order released yesterday, Superior Court Commissioner Scott M. Gordon granted some visitation rights to the twenty-five-year-old star singer while at the same time requiring a monitor to watch her while she is with her boys.
Her visits will be cut short if the monitor believes that any behavior threatens the health or welfare of the kids. After a hearing 2 days ago, a court spokesman indicated that Spears would be permitted visits every other day.
Phone messages left for her attorneys were not returned as of yesterday.
She had initially turned custody of the boys over to Federline after she had failed to produce a valid driver's license and supposedly missed a test for narcotics as ordered by the court.

Gordon stated in his court order that she "was not in substantial compliance with material provisions" of his previous ruling.
In addition,he stated that if she misses any narcotics or alcohol tests, it will be "deemed by the court as a failed test." Furthermore, she must finish a miniumum of 3 seperate counseling sessions by the time of the next hearing at the end of the month. Kiefer Sutherland, star of the TV series "24," faces potential jail time after he was charged with drunken driving today.
The fortyish actor was charged with a pair of misdemeanor counts including driving under the influence, according to the LA city attorney.
If convicted, which appears somehwhat likely, he faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a minimum of 4 days in the slammer.
He remains on probation for a 2004 drunken driving offense which put him into a court-ordered alcohol treatment program.
If found guilty of violating the terms of his probation, he could face an additional 6 months, unfortunately for him.
At this particular time he remains free on a $25,000 bail.
Authorities have stated that they stopped him after 1 a.m. when they saw him make an illegal turn. He was then arrested after failing a sobriety test.
Kiefer, the son of veteran actor Donald Sutherland, is perhaps best known for his role as the terrorist-fighting agent Jack Bauer in the Fox TV show called "24".

Uncle Kracker recieve's One Year Probation for Assault charge

According to several online entertainment news sources including the E! News network,
a Wake County judge today sentenced the entertainer known as Uncle Kracker to one year's probation, fined him $1,500 and also ordered him to undergo an alcohol assessment.
Authorilyties claimed that Matthew Shafer (his real name), put his hand up a female patron's skirt at a nightclub. She then slapped him, he slapped her back, and she later reported his behavior to an off-duty cop, apparently.
The Authorities then hunted him down to his hotel where they proceeded to arrest him.
He initial achieved fame working the turntables for childhood friend and Rocker Kid Rock. Then in 2000 he released his own album called Double Wide which had a hit and sold over two million copies.
His attorney fees should cut into a lot of those profits, I would imagine.

According to their ranking system, the reality TV show 'The Pick Up Artist'
is among their top shows overall, somewhat surprisingly. The show stars the world's greatest pick Artist named Mystery.
In the show his job is to train 8 guys who have a deficit in the love department. It is interesting to watch this guy
train these characters and eliminate their bad habits. They are AFC's or Average Frustrated Chumps, the show explains.
Mystery himself is an interesting guy. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, he got good at clubbing after doing his magic performances.
This 6'5 master of the "Venusian Arts' wears flamboyant clotheses such a cape, gogles and tophat (being a unique dresser is apparently important).
This legendary PUA is highly respected by his peers. A few years ago he defeated another top Pick Up Artist named Tyler Durden
over several days in Los Angeles in a close pick up competition there. Other top master Pick Up Artists include Style, Juggler,
David Shade and Rasputin. Mystery has many accolades. When the 'Rolling Stone' magazine writer Neil Strauss accompanied Mystery on a field

'Die Hard' Sentenced to 4 Months in Jail

John McTiernan, the creative force of such big action/adventure Movies as "Die Hard" with Bruce Willis and "Predator" starring the 'Governator', was sentenced to 4 months in jail today because he allegedly lied to federal agents.

All in all, he was 1 of 7 defendants who pleaded guilty to being involved in the conspiracy & racketeering case of fallen celebrity detective Tony Pellicano, who was himself charged with illegal wiretaps and illicit database searches to eavesdrop on many Hollywood stars and industry executives.
Wow, even John McClain would have lowered the boom on him for that one.
In any case, the Reuters report states that he previously pleaded guilty to making false statements to Federal agents investigating Pellicano when he stated that he never asked him to wiretap producer Charles Roven, with whom the director worked on the 2002 action film "Rollerball",
which was a remake of the 70's action movie that starred James Caan.
United States District Judge Dale Fischer rejected a motion by McTiernan to withdraw his guilty plea. In addition to his 4-month jail term, he got 2 years of supervised release and a one hundred thousand dollar fine as well.
Pellicano, who had previously worked for movie industry big shots like 'Mission Impossible' star Tom Cruise & 'Be Cool' star John Travolta, faces as many as twenty years in jail for every individual racketeering charge in his 110-count indictment when he goes to court.

George Clooney injured in NJ crash

George Clooney and his gal pal were injured yesterday when his motorcycle
collided with a vehicle on a road that cuts across from New York City to New Jersey state.
Clooney himself suffered a broken rib and some abrasions to his skin. Meanwhile, his passenger, Sarah Larson,
broke her foot in the late afternoon collision. They were both treated at Palisades Medical
Center in North Bergen and then released, according to the star's spokesman.
Apparently, he and Larson were going north and then sped up to pass on the right of a Mazda Millenia car which was about
to make a right turn. Fortunately, both of them were wearing their helmets.
At this particular time it is not clear whether or not the car's driver even used a turn signal. The accident is currently under investigation
but I suspect some more facts will be released very soon regarding the crash.

Apparently the Oscar Winner and former sexiest man alive was in the New York City area to film the movie "Burn After Reading," which also stars his Brad Pitt,
a co-star of many of his movies, plus John Malkovich and actress Frances McDormand as well.
Evidentally this accident will not likely delay the movie's production schedule.
Meanwhile his next film, "Michael Clayton," will be released sometime in October. He and Larson have reportedly been spied together at a few film events in the last month or 2.

Marcia Clark, who was made famous as one of the prosecutors (along with Christopher Darden) 12 years ago
as the opposite numb er of the "dream team: during the O.J. Simpson murder trial, isin yet another courtroom with the former Buffalo Bills football running back.
Only this time, Clark was part of the media army which was covering Simpson's Las Vegas arrest for Armed robbery. As a legal analysist for "Entertainment Tonight" as well as "The Insider," she had the
opportunity to tell everyone what she thought of Simpson.
"He skated on 2 murder charges, and he managed to get out of other charges of much lesser gravity since then. How did he manage to get himself back in trouble again?
"How stupid do you have to be?", she was reported as saying by the AP. Well, I guess getting away away with murder, if he did indeed do that, will give you a lot of confidence
about little things like armed robbery, I suppose. But Clark did not stop short at simply calling Simpson and idiot.
During the interview she was also quoted as saying:
(The Simpson Book) "If I Did It," (was) "hideous" and "all a lie." Indirectly addressing his girlfriend Christine Prody, a Nicole Brown-lookalike who stood by him in court, she said said: "It made me sick to my stomach. Do you not realize you could be next?"
A Los Angeles jury found Simpson innocent of murdering his ex-wife and her apparent boyfriend friend Ronald Goldman. In the civil case, however, he was found liable for their deaths and ordered to pay $33.5 million.
According to Ronald Goldman's father, Simpson has dragged his feet and generally avoided actually paying that money, as he was supposed to do.

O.J. Makes Bail, Faces Charges

Simpson was arrested just after 11 o'clock and in the morning and is currently being brought to a police office, Capt. James Dillon said. Police are still determining charges against Simpson.
In addition, bail had been denied to the suspect but was recently granted in the case.

A few police officers were sighted entering the hotel where Simpson is currently staying; security reported that the authorities took Simpson out a side door shortly thereafter.

The sixty year old former NFL has previously stated that said he and other individuals who were with him were retrieving merchandise which belonged to him. He has stated to the authorities that no weapons were involved in the incident.

Authorities have stated that 2 firearms plus other evidence were taken at a private residence early today.

Arizona resident Walter Alexander was arrested Saturday and charged with 2 counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and also burglary with a deadly weapon.

Mexican trucks may now haul goods North of the Border

According to USA Today and many other major national newspapers, and officially confirmed as well,
Mexican freight trucks can start transporting goods on highways across the country as early as tomorrow,
when the Dept. of Transportation is set to issue operating permits to various Mexican trucking companies.
The Texas newspaper 'The Waco Tribune-Herald' has reported that the Teamsters Union is very upset about this and will
be protesting. Specifically, they claim that giving Mexican rigs free right of passage on roads will jeopardize trucking jobs held by American citizens.
Meanwhile, other groups have questioned the safety of Mexican rigs. Up to this point, however, court decisions have rejected all legal protests and appear intent on allowing
Mexican trucks onto the countries highways. No, this probably does not mean that your Grandmother will no longer be patted down at the airport on her
airplane trip to her family reunion, or that you war hero brother won't have to take off his shoes or be subject to a strip search the next time he
travels from California to Utah on business, lol. After all, we can't risk something crossing state lines from a questionable source.

Mexican Narcotics cartels put hit squads in U.S. Border Town

According to Reuters news report, Mexican drug lords involved in a war for rulership of a pipeline that runs from Mexico to Dallas, Texas and eventuall up through middle America have boldly stationed assasination teams in the Texan border town of Laredo.

In the previous two years, competing drug gangs have killed at least 7 people in Laredo, including a victim stalked and killed near his employment site and a man gunned down in the parking lot of a crowded restaurant, U.S. authorities confirmed.
Most of the victims were somehow involved in the drug trade themselves, apparently.
"That river does not stop these people," said Webb County Sheriff's Maj. Doyle Holdridge, who for the past 30 years has been working cases in this area.

Over the last several years, the Mexican Gulf Cartel and its competitor Sinaloa Cartel have carried out a major battle in Nuevo Laredo. They even have a saying: "Plata o plomo" — "Silver or lead."

Prosecutors have managed to secure guilty pleas from an assasin named Reta & another hitman for the Gulf Cartel earlier in 2007.

Unlike some other narcotic-related killings, these particular ones quite often involve very careful planning and even surveillance of the Police, according to the Reuters Report. A major problem is that the assasins often flee back across the Mexican border,
where American officials have no jurisdiction.

In addition, the former unwritten rules against involving family members and other civilians have all been but abandoned, sadly enouph.

Furthermore, in an unsettling twist another casualty has been the respect once given to American authorities. Holdridge said he and his wife have occasionally been followed by the drug gang members. The assasin Reta himself had the make, model and plates of a law officer's personal automobile.
This has no doubt been in part due to the lax security along the border and the fact that many officers are not backed up. They are only allowed to use their firearms in extreme cases, such as if one is already pointed at them.

Reta admitted his part in an assasin team which was ordered to kill a man who was dating a drug kingpin's girlfriend. But they accidentally knowcked off the target's stepbrother instead, according to court documents.

All of the assasins lived in the United States., waiting for orders from the drug kingpins.

When testimony at Reta's trial bagan to unveil details of the cartel's organization, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to forty years in prison. A defense attorney and others involved in this case received threats during the trial.

Reta, who was only 16 when Flores was killed, still faces charges in the killing of another Laredo man, gunned down outside a restaurant, also allegedly on the orders of the Gulf Cartel.

He stated that the Zetas, former Mexican Army soldiers currently employed as Gulf Cartel enforcers, trained him in marksmanship and grenade-throwing at a boot camp south of the border.

He stated that he was involved in some thirty drug killings south of the border, beginning when he was only 13, and sought extradition here when he was arrested in connection with a grenade explosion that killed 4 individuals at a nightclub.

These assasins were paid some five hundred dollars per week, according to the police. When a job was completed, they would recieve an additional ten thousand dollars as well as 2 kilos of cocaine, the court documents stated. For the Flores killing, Reta and Cardona got five hundred dollars apiece, and The intended victim was indeed later assasinated.

The third alleged member of the hit squad made bail after his arrest and fled to Mexico before trial. Warrants have also been issued for the alleged middleman in the hit and the cartel's reputed boss in Nuevo Laredo, but both men are believed to be in Mexico.

These narcotic trafficing cartels have studied United States law enforcement tactics for years now and know how to work the system and find loopholes.

Holdridge said that the narcotic organizations in question occasionally send "suicide loads" or smaller shipement of marijuana that traffickers know will get discovered by the authorities. The Workers Comp fraud fiasco

Honest employers, partricularly those in the various blue-collar fields, might be over-paying rates for workers' compensation insurance due to the fact that their less than honest industry peers are cheating, a California advisory committee stated recently.

The report, which was in excess of forty pages long from the Committee on Health and Safety & Workers' Compensation stated that this lack of integrity means that honest firms in a broad range of risky blue-collar fields may be paying as much as a staggering 8 times more for workers' compensation insurance than they should be!

The 8 person advisory committee, which was commisioned by the governor and Legislature, sent the report to Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, who has quickly formed an anti-fraud force.

Under the existing law, firms have to purchase workers' compensation insurance for every single individual that works for them. The costs for this insurance is relative to the risk of the particular work being done. As a general example, a secretary would be at much lower risk than the employee who uses power tools.
For such a a blue collar worker, the hirer might be required to pay a dollar in workers' comp premium for every single dollar in payroll. Therefore, it obviously costs the honest firm around two times the amount to send such a worker up on the roof than the paycheck might suggest. or so it appears, at least. They said to anticipate some kind of announcement within 3-10 years or so from an individual in the somewhat esoteric area of study known as "wet artificial life."
In fact, some researchers think that man-made life forms will eventually offer the possibility of solving a number of different problems, such as fighting diseases and locking up greenhouse gases so as to consume toxic waste.
As Borenstein points out, a top man in the field, Jack Szostak, states that as early as the next 5 months or so, researchers will report evidence that the initial phase — making an actual cell membrane — is "not a big issue." The researchers are basically
using fatty acids in this particular effort. He is likewise positive about the next step — getting nucleotides (building blocks of DNA) to form a working genetic system.
The idea is that once the container is constructed, if researchers add nucleotides in the correct amounts, then Darwinian evolution may essentially go from there.

Immigration authorities admit that the crackdown not nearly as tough as expected

According to a recent article in the San Jose Mercury News,
it was reported that the current administration is now admitting that the most heavily hyped measure in punishing employers - an offensive against Social Security fraud - will be practically useless......
The reason for this is that as Social Security Administration warns employers about phony social security numbers, it is still not allowed to alert the Dept. of Homeland Security. This is the agency that is supposed to hand out penalties and regulate this issue.
California is of course is one of the leading states in terms of undocumented workers.
On top of that, government promises to hold hiring firms accountable for the hiring of illegals could possibly be halted or at least slowed down by a number of other important factors. For example, employers are still not mandated by law to check a new workers's SSN against a free government database,
thus permitting big holes between when an worker is actually hired to when the warnings are issued, and there is no realistic method at this time to effectively monitor workers
who have been fired. In a plethera of cases, illegals may still jump from position to position without being caught.

I recently read a report that something like 40% of illegals have some sort of criminal background and many are rapists, murderers and other violent offenders.
And there are nan estimated twelve million illegals in the country and 3 million more walking across the border each and every year. Of course if you fly from California to Oregon expect to be treated like YOUR the criminal at the airport, being patted down and groped, etc. I see 90 year old grandma's getting treated like threats but we allow this constant stream to pour across the border. I was reading that the rate of people streaming across our borders is much leass that that of the barbarians that overwhelmed the roman empire. it took many years, but that empire was eventually fully overrun in that fashion. I pray America wakes up before it is too late.

Immigration Bill defeated, at least for the time being

The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.

Certain senators in both parties said the issue is so volatile that Congress is not likely to revisit it this fall or next year, when the presidential election will increasingly dominate American politics.

The commander in Chief appeared glum as he spoke, according to the story. His negotiators had expressed optimism the vote would go their way — or, at least be a little bit closer than it turned out to be.

"Congress really needs to prove to the American people that it can come together on hard issues," Bush said. He turned attention to other his other goals in Congress this year, including energy, health care and balanced-budget initiatives.

Last year a similar immigration effort was defeated by the Congress, and the House has not bothered with an immigration bill this year, awaiting Senate action.

The vote was a defeat for a bipartisan group of lawmakers who advocated the bill as an imperfect but necessary fix of current immigration practices in which many illegal immigrants use forged documents or lapsed visas to live and work in the US.

It was a victory for Republican conservatives who severely criticized the bill's provisions that would have established pathways to lawful status for many of the estimated twelve million illegal immigrants. They were aided by talk radio and Television hosts who repeatedly verbally assaulted the bill and urged listeners to flood Congress with phone calls, faxes and electronic-mails.

Voting to allow the bill to proceed by ending debate were 33 Democrats, 12 Republicans and independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Voting to block the bill by not limiting debate were 37 Republicans, 15 Democrats and independent Bernard Sanders, Vt. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., did not vote.

The bill would have toughened border security and also instituted a newer method for weeding out illegal immigrants from workplaces. It would have created a new guest worker program and allowed millions of illegal immigrants to obtain legal status if they briefly returned home.

Bush, making a last-ditch bid to salvage the bill, called senators early Thursday morning to urge their support. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez approached senators as they entered and left the chamber shortly before the vote.

But conservatives from Bush's own party led the opposition. They repeatedly said the government must secure the borders before allowing millions of illegal aliens a path to legal status.

Sen. Elizabeth H. Dole, R-N.C., said many citizens simply "do not have confidence" that borders, particularly in the south, will be substantially tightened. "It's not just promises but proof that the American people want," Dole said.

Many radio personalities assaulted the bill. Sean Hannity was very outspoken against it.

On the Rush Limbaugh show it was reported that border agents had their hands tied and that the illegals had more rights than them. One caller another conservative radio program and said "I am very upset that they are trying to ram this bill through and are not securing the border. You get on an airplane to go anywhere and you are treated like a criminal. 90 year old women have to strip and are prodded just to travel to see their relatives for Christmas. Yet millions of illegals literally pour across our border each year, about twenty percent of whom have a criminal record, and some have bodygaurds and are leaving korans along the side of the desert trails into the country. Meanwhile ordinary tax paying citizens are treated like common criminals."
